The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS), in partnership with the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA), on September 5, 2025, officially launched the 2025 Annual Bankers’ Sports Gala with the much-anticipated Bankers’ Run/Walk at the UBA Offices in Muyenga.

Held under the theme “Beyond the Finish Line,” this year’s gala aims to promote physical wellness, teamwork, and camaraderie across the banking and financial services sector. The Bankers’ Run/Walk also kicks off the 30-Day Fitness Challenge, where participants are encouraged to walk 5,000 steps daily for 30 days to earn medals and points for their institutions.

The event began with participant arrivals, registration via the UIBFS Fitness App, and a pre-run briefing, followed by high-energy Zumba exercises to warm up the crowd.

The Chief Walker/Runner then officially flagged off the 3KM, 5KM, and 7KM routes, sending enthusiastic participants off in great spirits to showcase endurance, teamwork, and commitment to wellness.

Speaking at the launch, UIBFS CEO Mrs. Goretti Masadde expressed her excitement for this year’s gala, noting its importance beyond the sporting activities.

“This gala is not just about competition. It is a platform where we, as bankers and financial sector professionals, step away from our desks and offices to connect, celebrate teamwork, and promote wellness. It reminds us that while we work hard to keep our sector strong, we must also take care of ourselves,” she said.

UBA Executive Director Mr. Wilbord Owor applauded the partnership between UBA and UIBFS, emphasizing the need to sustain such initiatives for the well-being of staff in the banking sector.

“We are committed to working with UIBFS to make the Bankers’ Sports Gala bigger and better each year, creating opportunities for our teams to stay active and engaged,” he said.

UIBFS Board Chair Mr. Michael K. Mugabi highlighted the relevance of this year’s theme. “The theme Beyond the Finish Line speaks to endurance, resilience, and determination—qualities that define not only today’s race but also our work as financial sector professionals. This run is about pushing ourselves, supporting each other, and embracing wellness as a lifestyle,” he remarked.

In a major highlight, UIBFS unveiled the Sports Gala App, designed to help participants track their daily 5,000 steps for the Fitness Challenge and monitor all games throughout the gala season.

The 2025 Annual Bankers’ Sports Gala will run from 5th September to 19th October 2025, featuring a diverse lineup of activities including indoor and outdoor games, the CEO/ExCo Golf Tournament, swimming, quizzes, and more.

Participating institutions include: Bank of Uganda, ABD Capital Bank, ABSA Bank, Bank of Baroda, Cairo Bank, Centenary Bank, Diamond Trust Bank, DFCU Bank, Equity Bank, Ecobank, Exim Bank, Finance Trust Bank, Financial Intelligence Authority, FINCA MDI, GT Bank, Housing Finance Bank, I&M Bank, KCB Bank, NCBA, Postbank, Tropical Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Stanbic Bank, United Bank for Africa, Uganda Development Bank, and UGAFODE MDI.
