NALA has officially secured both Payment Service Provider (PSP) and Payment System Operator (PSO) licences from the Bank of Uganda. With these approvals, NALA now holds three licences in Uganda, in addition to its money remittance licence obtained in 2024.

The licences affirm NALA’s commitment to meeting the highest regulatory, operational, and consumer protection standards required by the Bank of Uganda.

NALA is now authorised to operate fully within Uganda’s regulated payments ecosystem, enabling the company to provide secure, reliable, and innovative financial services to individuals, enterprises, and financial institutions.

The company will be able to deliver secure, real-time, and scalable payment services to consumers, businesses, and financial institutions. These licences will also accelerate the development of interoperable, transparent, and compliant payment solutions tailored to Uganda’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

These approvals reflect NALA’s long-term investment in compliance, treasury infrastructure, and local partnerships, all essential to powering safe, real-time payments at scale across the African continent.

With these licences, NALA will roll out a suite of digital payment services, including merchant payments, collections, disbursements, and interoperable transaction processing. These capabilities will strengthen Uganda’s financial ecosystem, support business growth, and advance financial inclusion across the country.

Benjamin Fernandes, NALA founder and CEO, said, “These licences represent a major step forward for NALA and for Uganda’s digital payments landscape. Receiving PSP and PSO approval from the Bank of Uganda demonstrates our deep commitment to regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and building infrastructure that is safe, transparent, and globally connected.

Uganda is a critical market in our mission to build payments for the next billion, and this milestone enables us to bring world-class financial technology to support individuals, businesses, and institutions across the country. We look forward to working closely with local stakeholders to strengthen the resilience and inclusivity of Uganda’s financial ecosystem.”

With licensing and regulatory approvals across Africa, Europe, the UK, and the US, and expanding infrastructure across Asia, NALA continues to build one of the most trusted and compliant payment networks serving global enterprises and consumers.
