The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has handed over two more bases to enable the mission to draw down 2,000 troops by the end of June 2023.
ATMIS replaced the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) with effect from 1 April 2022.
On Tuesday, the mission handed over the Cadale Forward Operating Base to the Somali National Army (SNA) in the Hirshabelle State.
It is the third FOB to be handed over as part of the 2000 troop drawdown by 30 June 2023.
On the same day, the mission handed over the 4th Forward Operating Base (FOB), Albao, to the Somali National Army.
On June 23, ATMIS handed over Mirtiquo FOB Forward Operating Base (FOB) to the Somali National Army (SNA).
Mirtiquo FOB in the Hirshabelle State, has since 2016 been within the Area of Responsibility (AoR) of ATMIS Burundi National Defence Forces (BNDF).
It was the second FOB to be handed over after Xaaji Cali FOB.
