Alionzi Lawrence aka Dangote is the new Guild President of Makerere University.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate was declared the winner after beating seven other contestants in the Wednesday 30th November 2022 online election.
He polled 5,839 votes, followed by Ibra Hussein who got 2,079 votes. The Chairperson of the Guild Electoral Commission, Nsobanyi Edrine, declared the results of the elections.

Justus Tukamushaba came in third place with 1,758 votes, Blessious Namirembe with 359 votes, Calton Muhinda with 23 8votes, Christopher Ronald Mugisa with 106 votes, Honest Natumanya with 24 votes and lastly, Edward Nalwangu who got 37 votes.
“Tonight, God has spoken. A single orphan to a peasant mother is now the 88th Guild President of the region’s most prestigious university,” Alionzi said in his maiden speech.
A former speaker of Nsibirwa Hall and student of the College of Engineering, Design Art and Technology, Alionzi becomes the 88th Guild President.

According to the Guild Statute, elections of the Guild President and all other guild leaders shall be conducted by the guild electoral commission in accordance with the provisions in section 7 of the students guild statute.
Swearing-in of the Guild President, Guild Representative Councilors, Senior Common Room, College Councils, Debating Union and Games Union will be conducted on Monday 5th December 2022 according to the standing election guidelines.
