Alan Kasujja Appointed Executive Director of Uganda Media Centre

President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Minister of Information and Communication Technology and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, to appoint veteran journalist Alan Kasujja as Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre.

In a letter dated Dec. 27, 2025, addressed to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni said he had already approved Kasujja’s appointment following earlier discussions.

“I was not aware of the ongoing manoeuvres. However, some weeks ago, we discussed the idea of Alan Kasujja with you. I have already directed Dr. Chris Baryomunsi to appoint him as Executive Director of the Media Centre. We can then look at the others,” Museveni wrote.

The President further instructed the ICT minister to initiate formal appointment procedures and assess other candidates who could serve as deputy executive director.

By press time, Baryomunsi was not immediately available for comment.

Kasujja will replace Ofwono Opondo, who resigned in April 2025 after announcing his intention to join elective politics ahead of the 2026 general elections. Opondo has since been elected unopposed as Member of Parliament representing Older Persons for Eastern Uganda.

Kasujja brings decades of experience in the media industry. He began his career in the 1990s at Sanyu FM and has worked across radio and television in Uganda.

He previously co-hosted The Big Breakfast on Kampala-based Capital FM alongside Jackie Lumbasi and Ramesh Gabalsing and has presented Uganda’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” since 2011.

Since 2012, Kasujja has been based in London, where he was the lead presenter on its World Service’s Newsday and hosted its Africa Daily podcast.

In January 2016, he co-moderated Uganda’s first-ever televised presidential debate alongside Nancy Kacungira.
