Kampala, Uganda – Senegalese music star Aliaune Damala Badara known by his stage name Akon is expected in the country for the swearing-in ceremony of President-Elect Yoweri Museveni.
Akon who was in Uganda last month said he would return for Museveni’s sixth inauguration.
President Museveni polled 58.64% of the total votes cast to win the February 14 presidential election.
According to the office of the Presidential advisor on diaspora issues, Akon is set to land in the country ahead of the ceremony on May 12.
He will be accompanied by 12 American celebrities including actress Porsha Dyanne Williams, former NFL Players Israel Idonije, Andre Lamont Johnson, David Young among others.
They joins a long list of world leaders and dignitaries who have started arriving in the country ahead of Mr. Museveni’s inauguration.
Some of the leaders already in the country include Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and the Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye among others.
While in the country last month, Akon accompanied his wife, Rozina Negusei visited Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Park. They described Uganda’s beauty as amazing.
Akon, who was on a four-day visit to Uganda in search of investment opportunities also visited President Museveni.
