Airtel Uganda, in collaboration with the Buganda Kingdom, has officially launched the 21st edition of the Airtel Masaza Cup, one of Uganda’s most celebrated grassroots football tournaments.

The Airtel Masaza Cup brings together all 18 counties (Masaza) of the Buganda Kingdom, serving as a platform for showcasing local football prowess while reinforcing cultural identity and unity. Over the past two decades, the tournament has become a cornerstone of community engagement and a springboard for young players aspiring to professional football careers.

Speaking at the launch, Airtel Uganda’s Managing Director, Mr. Som Soumendra, highlighted the value of the long-standing partnership with the Buganda Kingdom and the transformative potential of the tournament.

“Our enduring partnership with the Buganda Kingdom is a source of immense pride. The Airtel Masaza Cup embodies the vibrant spirit of the Kingdom, bringing out raw talent and offering it a chance to shine. It’s more than a tournament; it’s a reason to imagine a better future for our youth and Buganda,” Soumendra remarked.

To complement the tournament, Airtel Uganda also introduced new Masaza Bundles, specially crafted to keep fans connected throughout the season. These bundles offer a combination of data, SMS, Airtel-to-Airtel minutes, and all-network voice minutes, valid for 30 days. They will be available from 21st June 2025, accessible via 10006#, the *100# menu under ‘Combos’, or through the My Airtel App. Users can also repurchase or share them with others via Tugabane.

“These all-in-one bundles are designed to provide convenience and value, allowing fans, vendors, and entrepreneurs alike to stay connected during the tournament—whether it’s sharing exciting moments, coordinating business, or simply enjoying seamless communication,” Soumendra added.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga expressed appreciation for Airtel Uganda’s consistent support and reflected on the tournament’s cultural and social impact.

“We are deeply grateful to Airtel Uganda for its steadfast commitment to the Masaza Cup. This tournament is a vital symbol of our unity and cultural pride. It empowers young people, strengthens our counties, and demonstrates the strength of collaboration. I encourage all our people to support their teams with passion and peace, and to celebrate the rich heritage that defines Buganda,” said the Katikkiro.

The 2025 Masaza Cup promises thrilling football action as 18 counties vie for the prestigious trophy. The tournament kicks off with an opening clash between Buddu and Gomba in Masaka, setting the tone for an exciting season of sport, culture, and community spirit.
