Kabarole – The agri-led strategic implementation meeting for Rwenzori region is ongoing at Mountains of the Moon Hotel in Fort Portal, Kabarole district.
The meeting which has been convened by the Operation wealth Creation Chief Coordinator, Gen Caleb Akandwanaho Salim Saleh (Rtd) is being attended by Ministers Matia Kasaija, Tom Butiime, Christopher Kibanzanga, Peace Mutuzo, Frank Tumwebaze and OWC staff including Henry Banyenzaki.
All district chairpersons and RDCs of Kabarole, Kasese, Kamwenge, Bunyangabu, Bundibugyo, Ntoroko, Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa are also in attendance.
The meeting is also being attended by members of the private sector, local entrepreneurs among others.
The Agro-Industrialization for Local Economic Development (AGRILED) initiative was launched in the Rwenzori region last month and seeks to transform the local government system to facilitate effective business oriented local development.
During the launch, Minister Butime said the drive for local economic development and community driven development will focus on local government productive activities which are crucial for increased local resource mobilization.
The other objective of the Presidential initiative is to create local wealth through agro industrialization which will increase local government financing and fiscal space.
The Ministry of Finance has already accepted a Shs 649bn development budget required to finance the AGRI-LED priorities for the Rwenzori region.
