Businesswoman Adrine Kobusingye has officially been nominated to contest for the position of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Chairperson Women’s League in the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
Speaking after her nomination at the NRM headquarters in Kyadondo, Kampala, Kobusingye said her candidacy is rooted in the desire to close what she described as a “wide gap” between the current leadership and the women being represented.
“There’s a huge gap between the leadership and the women at the grassroots,” Kobusingye said after her nomination. “I am coming in to bridge that gap—through the three Cs: Communication, Connection, and Collaboration.”
Radiating emotion and energy as she addressed the press and supporters, Kobusingye said her leadership vision is anchored in community, unity, and impact. “Oh wow… I’m so excited. It’s overwhelming. Thank you, my God,” she began, before pledging to lead with love and compassion. “Strong women don’t rise alone—they lift others as they go. This is what I stand for.”

Accompanied by a group of women donning yellow attire (the colour of the NRM party), blowing vuvuzelas, beating drums, dancing and ululating, Kobusingye emphasised that her campaign will focus not only on leadership but on meaningful mobilisation.
“We are here for change. We are here to mobilise. We are here to support our President, who has been good to us and opened up space for women to thrive. Most of all, we are here for love, unity, and service,” she said.
“Here in Uganda, we are building a movement where women are equipped to lead, to uplift communities, and to create lasting impact,” she added, citing initiatives like the She-Summit and programmes on agroecology and entrepreneurship that are transforming lives.
She promised that within five years, the Women’s League would “shine,” and that her leadership would be based on teamwork and collective progress. “This moment, this gathering, is a testament. Trust me, within five years, you will see what we as women are capable of achieving,” she said.

Kobusingye’s remarks struck a tone of hope and determination as she promised to uplift women and challenge those who doubt women’s capacity to lead. “I have come here as a voice for women in leadership—women who lead with heart. You can feel the passion, the love, and the compassion in this space. It is powerful. It has inspired me deeply. This energy, this unity—it’s something women all around the world are yearning for.”
She cited “some people who think women can’t lead” and that their dreams are shattered by their circumstances. “But from the women I’ve interacted with, I’ve seen that the potential is immense. Yes, there is still a big gap. But we will close it.” “This is our time. Let us not take this moment for granted. We are here to lead. And we will share, connect, and prosper—together.”
Kobusingye has served as Board Chairperson of Igara Growers Tea factory, Founding Chairperson of Igara-Buhweju Tea Farmers Sacco (IGABU), and Board Member of Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA).
More Nominees
Kobusingye joins a competitive race for positions in the CEC as the NRM gears up for internal elections. Other nominees include businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba, who is contesting for Chairperson of the Entrepreneurs League.

Basajjabalaba says his extensive experience as a seasoned businessman makes him well-suited for the role. He pledges to work closely with the party to streamline entrepreneurship and push for reforms in the country’s tax policy, which he noted continues to burden many business owners.
The tycoon is up against Senior Presidential Advisor on Trade, Phillip Kakuru, a teacher and an economist, who is committed to driving socio-economic transformation by empowering entrepreneurs and fostering sustainable economic growth.
Kampala Central Mayor Salim Uhuru was nominated to contest for the position of Vice Chairperson for the Kampala region in the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC).
Meanwhile, Namutumba District Woman MP, Mariam Naigaga, has declared her intention to contest for the position of Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region in the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC).
