Uganda’s climate activist, Ariokot Faith Patricia, has set a new tree-hugging record. She hugged a tree for 15 hours, 19 minutes.
She was attempting to break the World Record for the longest tree hug by an individual.
“My country. My people. My loves. We did it. We broke the world record of 8:00 hours. We surpassed our expected time of 13:00 hours. We were on our way to make at least 17 hours. Then lightning struck and we had no choice but to stop the attempt. At exactly 15 hours and 19 minutes. We have set a new @GWR,” she wrote on X on December 29, 2023.
Her first attempt on December 8, 2023, was discarded because her camera glitched and missed several minutes.
She held the event to raise awareness for environmental conservation.
She will submit all evidence to the Guinness World Record for review.
“What world record was I attempting to break? According to @GWR, there is no current record holder for the longest tree hug. Although Adrienne Long attempted the record in 2020, she does not hold this title. When approved by Guinness, I will be the first person ever to hold this record. Uganda to the world,” she said on X.

“The human body stops. The initial plan was 00:00 on 1st Jan 2024. The health experts who were monitoring my health throughout advised me to call it a record,” she said on X.
She added: “My team and I are currently submitting all evidence to @GWR who will review and give a final verdict in a space of 2 weeks. Eh, but Ugandans are patriotic for the right cause, with that said thank you so much for the overwhelming support and love.”
