The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Uganda and Deloitte Uganda have officially launched the 9th Edition of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Awards, the country’s premier platform celebrating financial leadership excellence.
The theme of the 2025 edition is “CFO Vision: Creating Impact and Legacy”, spotlighting finance leaders who are not only driving organizational growth but also shaping sustainable personal and business practices and leaving lasting legacies within their industries and communities.
The CFO Awards have, over the years, grown to become the most prestigious recognition for finance leaders in Uganda, regionally and across the continent, honouring professionals who exemplify strategic vision, innovation, ethical leadership, and financial stewardship.
Speaking about the awards, Charlotte Kukunda, Country Manager-ACCA Uganda, said: “Over the past eight years, we have reported year-on-year growth in interest and participation. We have seen an increase in categories from 5 to 10, a notable rise in first-time participants, and registered quick transitions of participants from Chief Finance Officers to Chief Executives and other regional leadership roles; this is particularly evident for winners and exceptional participants.” “The awards have highly amplified the profile and role of CFOs, emboldened them to engage more strategically, inspired the younger finance professionals to aspire for finance leadership, knowing what skills and capabilities they must develop and created a community of CFOs who learn and improve each other through quarterly networking forums.”
Patronella Namubiru, Director, Tax and Legal at Deloitte Uganda, added:
“The growth of the CFO program and the annual awards is an exciting development to witness. The forum has had a significant impact on our winners and everyone involved. We have seen our participants and winners rise to take up different positions in their organizations. We have also seen our winners here in Uganda go on to create impact in other regional and continental awards. We encourage all accountants and finance professionals to reflect on the year’s theme, be involved in the process and continue to nominate or express their interest to their colleagues and communities as this is a worthy challenge.”

Speaking at the same event, Mumba Kalifungwa, CEO Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited endorsed the awards saying “I believe this is an important aspect of the profession, and it is an opportunity for accounting professionals in Uganda to participate, to show their skills in terms of leadership development, and the impact that they create, and value that they create for organizations”.
Kate Kiiza, whose profile has been elevated to Executive Director and Head of Corporate Business from Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director at dfcu Bank, a title she held during the 2024 awards, testified that, “As CFO of the year 2024, I had to be very intentional in what I do, in how I support others, in how I grow everybody else within the team. That’s about the team to myself, there was the whole challenge of the learning. It’s been an interesting journey, transforming from CFO, also known as back office people, to the front line. I look at the world in a totally different perspective. That it’s something worth experiencing, worth looking up to, and I encourage everyone and all our teams to actually participate.”
