The Secretary-General of the Asian–African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO), Dr. Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol, has arrived in Uganda ahead of the 63rd Annual Session of the organisation, signalling the readiness of member states to advance dialogue on International Law, the Rule of Law, and multilateral cooperation.

The five-day conference, scheduled for September 8–12, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, will bring together delegations from over 47 member states across Asia and Africa.

Hosting the session positions Uganda as a critical voice in shaping global legal frameworks, with the discussions expected to influence international trade, peace, security, and diplomacy from a Global South perspective.

A Milestone for Uganda and the Global South

Uganda’s hosting of the session reflects its growing role in South-South cooperation and international law deliberations.

“This is not just a legal conference; it is a national opportunity,” the Government of Uganda said in a statement, urging the legal fraternity, academia, policymakers, and the private sector to actively support the event.

The AALCO headquarters is based in New Delhi, India, with the organisation serving as a platform for Asia and Africa to articulate shared legal perspectives on the global stage.

Leadership and Participation

Dr. Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol, from the Kingdom of Thailand, serves as the current Secretary-General, while Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, also from Thailand, is the current President of AALCO.

Speaking ahead of the Kampala session, Dr. Pinitpuvadol emphasised that the contribution of developing countries to international law and the world order remains critical and relevant.

“The contribution of Developing Countries to International Law, the Rule of Law and the World Order will always be relevant,” said Dr. Kamalinne.

Delegates from across Asia and Africa are already arriving in Uganda for what promises to be a landmark gathering in the history of AALCO.
