3 Ugandan MPs Detained over Budgeted Corruption as Museveni Probe Bites

Police have detained three Members of Parliament who were summoned on Monday morning to the Criminal Investigation Directorate in Kibuli.

According to reliable sources, Parliament’s Legal Committee vice chairperson, Yusuf Mutembuli; Lwengo Woman MP, Cissy Namujju and Busiki County MP, Paul Akamba are being held together at Kira Police Division cells.

The arrests come on the back of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s revelation during the State of the Nation Address that he finally had received evidence against a corrupt cartel and pledged to crush them.

Museveni noted that he had been getting good information about corrupt actors among the public servants but also among the political actors.

“I have been hearing that from the Ministry of Finance, they collude with the accounting officers of ministries to come to Parliament working with some people there (Parliament) to provide certain funds, provided you take a share. I didn’t believe this but now I have proof,” said Museveni.

He added, “With firm evidence, I will crush these traitors. Public servants and political leaders that steal Government money will be crushed.”

Had the President been meeting the Speaker and MP Cissy Namujju over the said budget-related corruption in Parliament?

The President’s remarks came at a time the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, is3 Ugandan MPs Detained over Corruption as Museveni Probe Bites.

Three Ugandan legislators have been detained by police on corruption related charges.

Police have detained three Members of Parliament who were summoned on Monday morning to the Criminal Investigation Directorate in Kibuli.

Now, a reliable source in security has told this website that the MPs who were quizzed by the Criminal Investigations Directorate ( CID) on Monday morning had been transferred to Kira where they are detained.

At CID, journalists and the public were barred from entry as the legislators appeared. facing sanctions front here US and the UK over corruption, and stealing from the poor communities like Karamoja region.

According to the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), Uganda loses over Shs 10 trillion every year to corruption.
