Massive power blackout hit Kampala and neighbouring areas on Tuesday and pressed on for more than 8 hours leaving thousands of consumers stranded.
The blackout started at around 4pm local time and stayed up to 9:02pm when power returned. In some areas, power spent about 10 more minutes and another power cut emerged until midnight.
According to the statement released by UMEME, loss of electricity supply was caused by a system disturbance.
“A system disturbance has led to the loss of electricity supply which is affecting several areas. UETCL our service provider and system operator is working around the clock to restore the supply,” the UMEME statement read.
This is a rare occurrence in Kampala in the past one year since power cuts don’t regularly widely occur and last for such a long period.
Meanwhile, as Ugandans cried out loud over loss of electricity, neighbours Kenya also had the same problem in Nairobi and adjacent areas prompting the country’s electricity suppliers to issue a statement also sighting system disturbance.
