The organizers of the Nyege Nyege Music and Arts Festival have announced that the 9th edition will be held from November 14-17 at the Source of the Nile in Jinja City.

This year’s event will run under the theme “Afroglantic Carnival,” combining future-forward music with ancestral traditions, highlighting Uganda’s natural beauty and rich tapestry of cultures. It will also showcase the diversity of Ugandan traditional music with acts from across the country.

Speaking at this year’s Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo in Munyonyo, Festival organizer Derek Debru emphasized that the event aims to reflect Uganda’s hospitality and cultural diversity, advocating for peace and an insatiable thirst for a good time—qualities that define Nyege Nyege in Uganda.

“This year’s edition will feature artists from Sudan, South Africa, Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of Congo, India, and Brazil, as well as all East African countries. There will be special partnerships with cultural organizations representing all parts of Uganda,” Debru said.

He added that the festival will include showcases from Sudanese artists in exile, curated in partnership with Kampala-based Sudanese artists. Additionally, the governments of Brazil and the UK will also be featured in this year’s edition.

The 2024 line-up for the festival will be announced on July 1, and it will include guest curators from Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania.

Nyege Nyege continues to be a significant event in the African music scene, known for its vibrant atmosphere and eclectic mix of musical genres, offering attendees an unforgettable cultural experience at one of Uganda’s most iconic locations.
