Former National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Managing Director, Richard Byarugaba, has accepted the court’s decision, saying he will be judged by posterity.

High Court on Friday dismissed the Judicial Review Application lodged by Byarugaba through which he had challenged the decision of Minister Betty Amongi not to reappoint him as the Managing Director and also challenged the appointment of the current NSSF Managing Director, Patrick Ayota.

“Today (Friday) the High Court delivered their verdict. We have had our day in court. We thank the court for hearing us out,” Byarugaba said on X.

Justice Ssekaana Musa dismissed all Byarugaba’s prayers and upheld the decisions of Minister Amongi and the NSSF Board to appoint Ayota as the Managing Director.

NSSF was represented by KAA Advocates.

“We accept the ruling. We shall NOT appeal the matter,” he clarified.

He thanked President Museveni for giving him the opportunity to serve.

“We wholeheartedly thank the appointing authority the President Kaguta Museveni for having given us an opportunity to serve the nation in the capacity of Managing Director of NSSF for over a decade.”

“We did our best and there is evidence to show that NSSF progressed considerably during our leadership. We wish the Fund well. Hopefully posterity will judge us accordingly,” he added.

Richard Patrick Byarugaba is a Ugandan business executive, banker, and entrepreneur.

He is the former managing director and chief executive officer of the National Social Security Fund, a semi-autonomous retirement pension organisation for non-government employees in Uganda.

He served in that capacity from November 2017 until November 2022. He was also listed in 2012 as one of the wealthiest individuals in Uganda.
