Kampala City Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura Omutatina, has given birth to a baby girl.
Opposition figure, Dr Kizza Besigye, was among the first people to visit Nyanjura and congratulate her.
“Congratulations “Mama Rena”, Omutatina (one never afraid) on fulfilling your “resolution”!” Besigye said on X.
He added: “It was joy holding the newborn girl- Rena! Her other details are still awaited. Blessings always.”
In response, Nyanjura stated: “Resolution number two fulfilled, thank you so much my President for checking on us.”
Nyanjura, 35, was on 18 June 2020, appointed Deputy Lord Mayor for Kampala, replacing Sarah Kanyike.
She also serves as the elected Local Council 5 (LCV) Woman Councillor, representing Makerere University at Kampala Capital City Authority, the governing body of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda.
She was elected to her present position in 2016.
Her political activism started in 2001 when she was 12 years old. She felt that the then-presidential candidate Kiiza Besigye was not afforded a fair playing field to present and explain his manifesto. Since she was too young to vote, she asked her father to vote for Besigye.
