Dr Martin Origa has been honoured with a prestigious Excellence Award for designing a Cervical Cancer Screening strategy using mobile phone (mHealth) technologies.
The recognition by the Lee Jong-Wook (LJW) fellowship, which is run by the South Korea-based Yonsei University, reflects his exceptional dedication and expertise in the field of gynecologic oncology, according to the Uganda Cancer Institute.
“This morning, we shared the successes of two of our staff who have won internationally recognized awards from the Lee Jong-Wook Fellowship in Seoul South Korea. Dr. Martin Origa and Solomon Owino Canna,” Uganda Cancer Institute tweeted on August 30, 2023.
Dr Origa is a specialist in cancer of the female reproductive system at the Uganda Cancer Institute.
According to International Agency for Research on Cancer, cervical cancer was the commonest cancer in the country, contributing 6,959 (20 percent) of the 34,000 new cancer cases in the year 2020.
Cervical cancer was also the leading cause of cancer-related death, claiming about 4,607 lives.
