President Museveni has said millet is the richest food on earth, explaining why it makes the best substitute for foods like rice and bread.

He was on Thursday addressing the 4th Presidential CEO Forum held at Kiira Motors Vehicle Plant, Jinja.

“I do not eat wheat. I do not eat bread. I don’t eat rice. If wheat is not available, eat cassava. I’m now going to make 79, eating cassava and millet,” Museveni stated.

The president was concerned that Africans are easily swayed by everything new that comes along.

“Africans, I don’t know, every new thing that comes, we are easily swayed. It’s terrible.”

According to him, millet is the richest food on earth.

“Millet has got protein, carbohydrates and iron; all in one. There is no other food which is like that,” he noted.

Museveni told a story of how the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, found himself enjoying kalo (millet bread) which he shared with him.

“Recently, I was in Serbia; when I travel, I travel with my own food. I was eating my Kalo (millet bread) in Serbia, and the President asked what I was eating, and I told him I was eating Kalo. I asked him if I could give him some; I did, and he enjoyed it,” he explained.

While addressing the nation last year, Museveni urged Ugandans to consume local foods like cassava and millet when wheat prices shot up following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“Eat cassava if bread is expensive. I’m not an Indian to eat rice. I eat Matooke, Kalo (millet), and Muhogo (cassava). Have I caused trouble with those that eat rice?”
