Nakaseke district woman legislator, Sarah Najjuma has dismissed claims by Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze Bakirekke that she voted for lifting of Presidential age limits at gun point.

Nambooze posted on her facebook account on Wednesday, claiming that the government chief whip in Parliament, Ruth Nankabirwa put a sick Najjuma at gun point and forced her to vote in favor of removing the age caps.

Part of Hon Nambooze’s facebook post read : “Meanwhile MP Najjuma has been brought at “gun point” by Nankabirwa to vote….. On reaching the lobby, she fainted but she was brought on microphone before her time and forcefully told to vote yes”.

Najjuma who exclusively talked to SoftPower News refuted the allegations saying Nankabirwa only asked the Speaker to allow Najjuma to vote and leave because she was sick.

“It was a health problem. Hon Nankabirwa went to request the Speaker to allow me vote and leave. It wasn’t at gun point, but even the Speaker talked about it,” said MP Najjuma.

Parliament yesterday scrapped off Presidential age limits amidst contestation by a number of opposition legislators, making President Yoweri Museveni eligible to contest for yet another term.
