The group of talented dancers, led by their manager, Dauda Kavuma, were hosted by the UTB CEO, Lilly Ajarova, and other Ministry of Tourism Officials in appreciation for hoisting the Ugandan flag high internationally.

The group warmed hearts throughout the competition after earning the coveted “golden buzzer” on Britain’s Got Talent.

The kids that grew up in a childcare institution, mostly between the ages of five and 13, put up electrifying performances that showed off their personalities and impressive choreography.

The team made it to the finals where they finished in the sixth Position. The competitions were won by Norwegian Comedian, Viggo Venn.

Speaking at the Dinner, Ajarova promised to support the different groups that are promoting Uganda like the Ghetto Kids.

“The country has a lot of potential in so many things, there’s a lot to do to develop the different talents and products we have, at this point we have to look at the development of the products and refine them, we keep saying potential and this is one of them,” adding:

“Our priority right now is to really market the investment of this various potential and supporting the different groups like the Ghetto Kids, many times they have come to us wanting to visit the National Parks and we have helped them to access them, experience the wildlife but now with the Ghetto Kids who have just got from London, we thought it was very special to organize this dinner.”

She noted that to further send a specific message that will promote Uganda, is to package for them a specific message while at these international events.

“The preparation of them going to the global stage is something we need to do together with them such that some of this messaging is specific and clearer on what the country has to offer,” she said.

Lyazi Vivian, the Assistant Commissioner of Tourism at the Ministry of Tourism, welcomed the ghetto kids and appreciated them for their performance.

He said the story of the ghetto kids is an interesting one where they have consistently promoted Uganda on the global stage and showed how Uganda is a country of happy, welcoming people.

He pledged more support to the Ghetto kids through different collaborations in the Explore Uganda Campaigns, visits around the National Parks, and the country exposing of what the country has to offer.

Kavuma Dauda the founder of the Ghetto Kids, noted that the achievement they reached is one they didn’t expect as they never joined the competitions for money but to have fun.

He noted that the welcome dinner by UTB, is something they don’t take for granted, “We wanted this, we wanted someone from UTB, or the Ministry to Show that he appreciates us, we just want to have like a green card while visiting the different attractions, we want to promote Uganda in all other places not just in Ghetto, we want to shoot in the zoo in the national park, among others”.

He revealed that they are facing some challenges with providing education for the kids and meals as the kids are many calling for more support. photos by Marvin Mugerwa.
