Police has explained circumstances under which Police Constable (PC) Ivan Wabwire shot and killed a moneylender at Raja Chambers this afternoon in Kampala.
According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, it’s alleged that at around 1230 hours, one UTTAM BHANDARI an Indian by nationality and the Director of TFS Financial Services was shot dead by police officer No.67029 PC Wabwire Ivan. The deceased was killed with an AK47.
Onyago said the suspect had acquired a loan with TFS financial services in 2020, and by the time of the incident, he had come to the victim to get a quotation to take to unidentified bank so that the bank buys off the loan.
However, Onyango added that the officer started arguing with Bhandari and “could not believe that it is the amount he is supposed to pay, leading to the shooting.”
“After the shooting, he jumped on a boda and rushed to CPS Kampala where he abandoned the killer gun,” he said, adding, “a team of Police officers led by KMP Commander SCP Steven Tanui responded to the scene, cordoned it off and and documented.”
Onyango further explained that relevant statements were recorded from key witnesses and some of the workers of TFS financial services.
“Efforts are being made to have the suspect arrested for further inquiries, we condemn the act of using guns to solve problems instead security personnel should use peaceful means to manage conflict,” he said.
