Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has diverted traffic after River Katonga flooded and cut off the Kampala-Masaka Highway.
Traffic flow along the Kampala-Masaka highway was on Thursday disrupted after water levels at Katonga River rose significantly posing a serious risk to motorists and pedestrians attempting to cross.
“For your safety, we strongly advise using alternative routes while we collaborate with UNRA, to address the situation promptly,” a traffic advisory from the Uganda Police Traffic Directorate read.
Travellers from Kampala have been encouraged to divert and use Mpigi—Kanoni—Maddu—Ssembabule—Masaka, and vice versa for those from Masaka—Kampala, as water levels subside.
“Please exercise caution, follow traffic instructions, and watch out for further updates,” the advisory adds.
The Mpigi—Kanoni—Ssembabule road is 137 km, Ssembabule—Masaka road is 47 km, a total of 184 km, all paved and motorable, according to UNRA.
