Manufacturers Association Launches Digital Membership Certificates

The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has launched new Digital Membership Certificates for its members.

According to the UMA Board Chairperson, Deo Kayemba, introducing Digital Membership Certificates is a critical step towards streamlining their services and achieving a paperless objective, as outlined in the Association’s 5-Year Strategic Plan.

He noted that during the transition period from physical to digital certificates, they will continue to issue both formats.

“The digital certificates will be provided ONLY to those members who have received hard copy certificates, allowing our members and relevant regulatory bodies to become familiar with this change,” he said.

According to the Uganda Communications Commission, internet penetration in Uganda stood at 47.4% in 2021, demonstrating the potential for digital transformation to impact various sectors, including manufacturing.

Kayemba said the digital certificates will reduce the time and bulk of papers the members lift going to different offices for clearances.

He added that the shift towards digital certificates will decrease the amount of paper used during the verification process, contributing to a greener and more sustainable environment, but will also enable UMA to integrate its systems with relevant entities, further streamlining services for the members.

He added that the digital solution will add value to members and help position them for success in the ever-evolving business landscape.
