The Senior Assistant Secretary (SAS) for the Ministry of Karamoja Affairs, Abaho Joshua, has today been remanded to Luzira prison.
Abaho appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate, Joan Aciro, on Thursday morning.
He was charged with corruption and conspiracy to defraud following the diversion of iron sheets meant for the Karachunas of the Karamoja sub-region.
He denied the charges and was remanded until May 2, 2023, when he will return to court for a ruling on his bail application.
Abaho is accused of conspiring with his boss and Minister of Karamoja Affairs, Mary Goretti Kitutu, to defraud the government.
He was charged with the loss of public property and corruption on the same case file where Kitutu and her brother Michael Naboya Kitutu were previously charged.
According to the prosecution, in January 2023 at the Office of the Prime Minister’s stores in Namanve, Abaho diverted 5,500 iron sheets of gauge 28 belonging to the state.
His boss Kitutu is accused of diverting 9,000 iron sheets and giving her brother 100 iron sheets meant for the Karamoja Community Empowerment Programme.
