This was revealed today by the Commandant Military Police Maj Gen Don Williams Nabasa at Buyala, in Mpigi District, during the launch of the tree planting exercise to permanently mark the boundaries of the acquired land.

The planted trees at Buyala include Msizi and Mahogany, among others, because of their long maturity period.

In his address to the officers and men of Military Police who turned up for the tree planting exercise, Maj Gen Don Nabasa, told them that for long Military police had no permanent home, saying that where the Brigade headquarters sits is partly kabaka’s land thus making it difficult to expand, besides being located in town and sitting on a small area.

He explained that after acquiring the land at Buyala, the Military Police headquarters will shift there and Makindye will only remain as a tactical headquarter.

The boundaries of Buyala were opened late last year by the Military Land Board and a government valuer was brought in to assess the land for the right price, and the owner Mulowoza, was duly cleared by the defence ministry.

The Executive Director of the National Forestry Authority (NFA), Mr Okello Tom, commended the strong relationship between UPDF and NFA.

He thus donated Ten thousand tree seedlings on behalf of NFA as part of the efforts to save the environment for future generations.

Mr Okello advised troops to along the roads, and at a distance of 8 metres from each other, adding that this will make it difficult to cut down the trees during the construction of permanent structures.

Drilling of boreholes for clean water for the soldiers starts next week and the contractor is already done with surveying the right spots.

The shifting is going to be in phases and so far, Task Force Nalukolongo has partly shifted and is already on the ground. Next will be followed by Mbuya, then finally the Military Police headquarters.

The tree planting exercise was attended by all heads of departments and all senior officers of military police.
