Judicial officers under their Association, Uganda Judicial officers Association (UJOA) are holding a meeting today to decide on the way forward after the elapse of the ultimatum they had given to government without any formal commitment.

Judicial officers earlier this year entered a strike which was later called off after government made some promises which it committed itself to address by December 11, 2017, which is today.

In their Extraordinary Meeting held in September this year at High court Kampala, they agreed that incase nothing was done by December 11, they would meet again to decide on their next step. The options may include a countrywide strike of judicial officers if the majority of the members voted in favor.

According to Godfrey Kaweesa, the President of UJOA, to this day, they have not received any official communication from the government regarding the commitments made earlier.

He said that during Monday’s meeting, they expect a communication on the issue from the Minster of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Kahinda Otafiire.

Kaweesa added that it is from this communication that the members will vote on how to proceed.

Among the issues which these judicial officers want government to address include; salary increment, provision of; security, housing allowances, official vehicles and office stationary.
