President Museveni has commended the Church of Uganda for standing strong against homosexuality vice which is being supported by the Church of England.
“I want to congratulate believers for rejecting homosexuality. This problem of homosexuality is not something you should normalize and celebrate, I told Europeans that there were a few homosexuals before they came here, I have heard stories, but this was a deviation from normal. But now the Europeans don’t listen to other people’s views, they want to turn the abnormal into normal and force it on others,” he remarked.
H.E. the President made the remarks Thursday during the commemoration of St. Janani Luwum Day at Mucwini Primary School playground in Kitgum District.
He added: “But it is good that you took a stand and you said that Canterbury if you want homosexuality to go, but here we say God is Mighty and we are not going to follow people who are lost.”
Last week, the General Synod of the Church of England (their top governing body) decided to allow clergy to preside at Blessings of Same-sex Unions and approved supplemental prayers and liturgies for such occasions.
Synod members supported an amendment endorsing that stance, while also voting in favour of the proposal to allow blessings for civil marriages or civil partnerships in a church.
However, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, noted as the Church of England has departed from the Bible and is committing a sin, saying the Church of Uganda, cannot accept such since God cannot bless what He calls sin.
“The Church of England, on the other hand, has now departed from the Bible and their new message is the opposite message of the Bible. They are now saying, ‘Go, and sin some more’. They are even offering to bless that sin, That is wrong,” he said in a statement.
Kaziimba added: “We now want to ask the Church of England, “Do you have the integrity to step out of the Anglican Communion because you have departed from the Anglican faith?” God called you to preach a Gospel of repentance and faith. Instead, you’re like Jonah. You have disobeyed and are running in the opposite direction.”
Speaking in Kitgum, Mugalu requested President Museveni to join hands with the Church of Uganda to ensure that homosexuality is lawfully dealt with.
“We appeal that the Anti-Homosexuality bill is signed again. Janani Luwum was bold, we want you to be bold like him and fight all the vices attacking our nation,” he said.
