Opposition Party Presidents have come out to express solidarity with the opposition MPs in Parliament seeking to amplify the ‘Togikwatako’ campaign.

The ‘Togikwatako’ campaign which is loosely translated as ‘don’t touch it’ opposes the proposed Bill that seeks to repeal the Presidential age limit.

“We have come to affirm what was announced by the legislators yesterday, no one should think they were joking,” the Democratic Party (DP) President, Nobert Mao said.

“We shall be engaged in a full week of protests against the tabling of the age limit amendment Bill,” Mao said.

Mao noted that this is a decisive time in the struggle since it weakens and reduces Museveni’s continued stay in power.

“Every Ugandan should use whatever they can including putting on red attire as we match on the streets to defend the constitution,” he told a press conference on Friday.

The FDC Party President, Patrick Amuriat said that as a party, they can’t sit and watch Parliament being used to only fulfill the wishes of a single individual in the names of President Yoweri Museveni.

“We are declaring a red week starting Monday next week. Everybody is to wear red ribbon throughout the week,” Amuriat said.

“On the day the Committee Report on the Age Limit Bill is brought back to Parliament, we call upon all citizens from the surrounding districts of Kampala to march into town and gather around Parliament. This is something we are going to be working on relentlessly”.

Amuriat described the campaign against the amendment as a struggle of every Ugandan, urging all citizens to join the people of Kampala to demand that the constitution is not amended in favour of an individual.

On his part, the JEEMA President, Asuman Basalirwa called upon the judiciary to fast track the case before Court that was lodged by DP querying the manner in which the Bill was brought before Parliament.

“We also call upon the Lords in the East African Court of Justice to convene as soon as possible taking the matter that was tabled before them as a priority and accord the relevant justice,” Basalirwa said.
