The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has revealed all three sets of the 2022 National Examinations have ended successfully, with the last set of candidates writing their papers on Friday, December 9, 2022.

The Examinations started on October 14, with the briefing of UCE candidates, followed by the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), from November 7-9, and finally, the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) that was conducted from November 18- December 9, 2022.

A total of 1,280,132 candidates registered for the three sets of examinations.

Jenifer Kalule, the UNEB Principal Public Relations Officer, said that the Board will establish, after marking, how many of these sat for the examinations.

Of these candidates, 715,268 ( 56%) were funded by the government under the Universal Education programs of Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and the Universal Post O’ Level Education and Training Program (UPOLET).

The examinations were conducted from 20,517 examination Centres countrywide. Of these, 13,278 (65%) were based at government-aided schools.

Also, on November 30, the Board conducted an alternative examination paper for 23 PLE candidates of St. Christine Primary School, Kakumiro.

The candidates missed writing their mathematics paper on November 8, 2022. The case was regarded as a one-off exceptional case, that occurred under exceptional circumstances.

Marking of PLE and UCE Examinations

The marking of both the PLE and UCE Examinations is currently underway from 33 marking centres.

The Board expects to complete the marking of both UCE and PLE scripts by the end of January 2023, to enable the learners to pursue their continued studies as per the Ministry of Education Calendar.

Kalule says that final preparations are also underway for the marking of the UACE examination scripts that will be conducted from eight centres.

Examiners at all levels are on the alert to look out for any form of malpractice that may be detected at that level.
