Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers have killed two assailants who ambushed a foot patrol in Kikondo cell in Kapeek Town Council, Nakaseke District.
Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, said the incident happened Sunday morning at around 10:30 am when two assailants, armed with one AK 47 rifle, attacked a UPDF foot patrol.
“On contact, the assailants shot dead a UPDF soldier RA/260979 Private Tufeyo Obed. His colleagues fired back on the target, killing the two assailants instantly.”
According to Brig Gen Kulayigye, the troops also recovered the gun that the attackers used. “No weapon was lost by UPDF.”
The incident follows an intelligence-led operation on Saturday that saw one of the assailants who attacked a sentry along Ambercourt Road in Gaddafi Barracks in Jinja district, shot dead and two SMG rifles recovered.
“The UPDF and sister security forces have launched a full-scale onslaught on criminals interested in picking rifles to make unpalatable the appetite for gun acquisition,” revealed Brig Gen Kulayigye.
He added: “The criminals’ attempts on our forces shall be met with full force.”
