As the Christmas festive season draws close, Police has cautioned the Ugandan diaspora who plan to return home to be wary of the criminal elements that might target them.

Ugandans from abroad who come for Christmas holidays in December are known to be big spenders with a motive to show off, but police warns that this could put them in harm’s way.

While speaking to the press on Monday, Police spokesperson SSP Emilian Kayima appealed to the rich diasporans to be careful in the way they conduct themselves to avoid being prey to criminals.

“We are nearing Christmas, and this is the period when Ugandans living abroad come back home. And they often splash money because they want to be seen as rich people,” Kayima commented.

The police mouthpiece added; “They are likely to be targets of crime. Some will be duped into fraudulent transactions of land by conmen and others could even be waylaid and killed”.

“Some are actually killed by their relatives who are afraid of these diasporans discovering that the money they have been remitting home was not put to the intended purpose,” SSP Kayima said.

He further warned of soft crimes such as women who lure rich men into sexual enticements and end up sedating them with intoxicant substances for their valuables. Kayima cited previous incidents where cougars smeared sedatives on their breasts to make their targets sleep off.

He however encouraged such individuals to report any cases to police, shameful as they might appear to be.
