President Museveni has reassured all international guests and tourists that the country is safe for travel and stay.
This follows information that a number of tourists were cancelling and others postponing their visits to Uganda following an Ebola outbreak in some districts.
“I have been informed that some tourists have cancelled their visits to Uganda and postponed hotel bookings while some international conferences have been cancelled,” the President said in a Tuesday televised Presidential address.
“This is unfortunate and not necessary.”
Museveni reassured the tourists, international community, conference organizers and Ugandans that the government has put in place measures to control the outbreak.
He said that the Ebola outbreak is localised to only six out of 146 districts in Uganda.
“I want to reassure the international community that the Ugandan government is doing all it takes to contain the Ebola outbreak and avoid exportation to outside countries,” the President said.
He issued fresh measures to contain some of the new infections mostly in the communities of Kassanda and Mubende districts.
Among the measures, he directed the Health ministry to intensify the sensitization of Boda Bodas on dangers of Ebola and carrying of passengers.
