Twitter owner, Elon Musk, has said that a verified account on Twitter in the future could cost $8 a month.
This cancels earlier reports which claimed the feature would cost $20 per month.
According to him, the current system for allocating blue check marks – which verify a user as a trustworthy source – is “bullshit”.
“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit,” he tweeted on Tuesday.

Musk said the price had been “adjusted by country proportionate to purchasing power parity”.

He said this will also give Twitter a revenue stream to reward content creators.
“There will be a secondary tag below the name for someone who is a public figure, which is already the case for politicians.”

Musk confessed to stealing the idea from “Monty Python”— a British surreal comedy troupe that created the sketch comedy television show Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which first aired on the BBC in 1969.
