Twitter Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Elon Musk, has said he aims to make Twitter “the most respected advertising platform in the world.”

In a Thursday message to Twitter’s advertisers, Musk said he was buying the company to “have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner.”

He clarified that Twitter “cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!”

Musk revealed that Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints.

“No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” he noted, adding: “To be super clear, we have not yet made any changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies.”

According to Musk, Twitter must be “warm and welcoming to all” and that the social media app should “strengthen your brand and grow your enterprise”.

Twitter sent an email to some ad buyers earlier this week letting them know that the company is working with “the buyer” to close the acquisition by Friday and to acknowledge that Twitter is aware that advertisers have a lot of questions.

The email quoted by the media, said Twitter would work “with the potential buyer to answer quickly.”

Advertising provided 89% of Twitter’s $5.08 billion revenue in 2021, according to The Wall Street Journal.

“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” Musk aka Chief Twit tweeted.

He added: “There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.”

He clarified that he did not buy Twitter “to make more money. I did it to try to help humanity, whom I love”.
