On Friday, October 21, 2022, three individuals from among the 60 in the Mulago isolation facility tested positive for Ebola, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, these were contacts to the case from Kassanda district who passed on in Mulago Hospital.
They have since been under institutional quarantine in Mulago isolation unit.
She said they will be transferred to the Entebbe treatment Unit since the Mulago Unit still has 58 contacts under quarantine.
On Sunday, Dr Aceng said two more contacts to the Kassanda case, who are quarantined in Mulago Isolation facility, tested positive for Ebola yesterday 22nd October.
They have been transferred to the Entebbe ETU.
“This brings the total number of Ebola cases in Kampala to 5. Let’s remain vigilant and report anybody with symptoms similar to Ebola. Together we can end this epidemic,” noted Dr Aceng.
On Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) deployed 10 vehicles to Mubende district to support transport of health workers during the movement restriction period in the district.
This will ensure the continuity of essential health services even during the Ebola outbreak in the country.
Meanwhile, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors Without Borders are supporting the construction of an Ebola treatment unit at Kawere in Mubende district.
“We are supporting the ministry of Health with Ebola response by providing water sanitation, hygiene services, risk communication and community engagement and ensuring continuity of essential services,” said UNICEF in a tweet.
On Thursday, in a bid to break misinformation cycles around Ebola outbreak in Uganda, and encourage best practices, UNICEF sensitized community members/stakeholders in high-risk areas in a session with traditional healers/herbalists at Lwebyaayi in West Division in Mubende.
On the same day, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng led tour of the Mulago Isolation Facility and later went to the site where MSF is supporting the Ebola response to set up isolation tents in a bid to expand capacity for treatment and managing for Ebola patients.
The team also visited the Entebbe National Isolation Facility, which is currently managing one confirmed Ebola patient.
To-date, there are 64 confirmed Ebola cases and 25 confirmed Ebola deaths. There is one Ebola patient who is currently being managed at this facility and she is progressing well.
“I would like to appreciate all the health workers for their selfless work and sacrifice in managing Ebola here,” said Aceng.
