Miss Planet International, the first sustainable beauty pageant in the world that aims to seek the perfect woman who truly believes and supports all causes related to conservation efforts, will be hosted in Uganda from November 5-19, 2022, with participation of 80 countries.

Founded in 2017 by producers Pedro Francisco and Halley Amin in Cambodia, the pageant is anchored under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 Agenda and about 80 candidates from all over the world (aged between 18 – 29 years old) will compete to become Miss Planet International 2022 at the grand finale to be held on November 19th at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda.

“We decided to choose Uganda as our host for this year, due to its importance in our Planet,” said the organizers of the event.

Uganda has Lake Victoria, the largest tropical lake of the world and source of the Nile River.

Producer Franscisco says Uganda is the most ethnically diverse country in the world.
”For us it has a special meaning that our event will be held in the Pearl of the Origin of Humanity, the Pearl of Africa, as our main mission is to promote the compliance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda in order to Save the Humanity on Earth and our Planet.”

So far, 32 representatives from African countries have already registered to participate out of the 80 expected at the Miss Planet International beauty pageant.

He noted that this number is an impressive notable jump from 2019 when the pageant was last held in Cambodia, with only 3 African countries participating.

“I am happy and delighted to welcome all the guests and beauty queens to my home country. I can guarantee that they will experience warmth and hospitality from the people which will lead to many more repeat visits and great friendships,” said Cynthia Achieng, Miss Planet Uganda 2022.

All countries within the East African Community have already submitted candidates, showing a supportive role to Uganda, followed by other regional African representatives.

“This is a wonderful step towards Pan-Africanism. The support we have received from neighboring countries, including participation from all East African Countries and the rest of Africa clearly proves that we can be united through a common cause and work together as one,” said Monica Akech, the Director of Miss Planet Uganda.
