President Museveni has said that it will not be necessary to enforce another lockdown for Ebola which is currently ravaging the country.

“Today, I will talk about Ebola which we should fight using a revolutionary approach,” he said Wednesday night while addressing the nation.

According to the president, Ebola highly spreads through direct body contact and fluids.

“Other means are if you have sex, saliva and blood transfusion. The good news about Ebola is that it is not as infectious as Covid-19 which is mainly air-borne,” he noted.

“It is true that Ebola is a dangerous disease which is quite serious when you get it. The last time when we heard about Ebola, 53/100 infected people died. If you get it, go to the hospital quickly.”

The president said he would not lockdown the country over this disease. “It is not necessary to have lockdowns over Ebola. We just need to take care of a few things. I want to assure you that government has the capacity to control this Ebola outbreak as we have done before.” Therefore, Museveni noted, there is no need for restrictions or closure of public places like schools and markets.

“I am told that there is no vaccine for the Ebola-Sudan strain but some are being experimented with. Even if it is being experimented with, it can be used.”

He added: “I will update the nation as soon as the vaccine for Ebola-Sudan becomes available. Ebola is treatable.”
