He noted that the President is expected to attend and close the event on October 10, 2022.

He added that Kenya’s new President William Ruto is also expected to officiate at the opening of the event on October 4.

Birungi noted that the Trade Fair will help show the rate at which Uganda’s industrial sector is developing.

The Trade Fair 2022 is organized under the theme “harnessing economic recovery through local sourcing and deepening Value Chain Integration.”

At the same conference, Total Energies boosted the event with monetary sponsorship worth UGX 150 million.

The financial support is intended to boost the opportunity for small and medium enterprises to showcase their products and services as the country recovers from the disruption of COVID-19.

Speaking on behalf of Total Energies, Ms Omotosele Josephine Akinpelu, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Total Energies Uganda, said their commitment is to sustainably energize the future of business in Uganda, which includes creating enabling environment for the SMEs and our customers.

“We are also excited about the opportunity to celebrate 60 years of independence and commit to providing sustainable and convenient energy solutions to accommodate this improved access to our products through fuel card and our sister affiliate, Total Energies EP,” she said.

They pledged to offer a total of 450 million shillings to UMA for a period of 3 years; injecting 150 million shillings into the trade fair each year.

This year’s trade fair is scheduled for 3rd to 10th October 2022 at the Lugogo trade show grounds and it’s expected to attract a total of 300,000 visitors and exhibitors from within the country, Africa and beyond.
