Lt General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander of UPDF Land Forces, has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, ahead of his scheduled meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
Muhoozi who is accompanied by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Okello Oryem, Director External Security Organisation (ESO), Amb Joseph Ocwet and his Military Assistant, Col Mcdans Kamugira, is in Ethiopia at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy.
On arrival, the Ugandan delegation was received by Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E. Rebecca Amuge Otengo, Uganda’s Defense Advisor to Ethiopia, Col Fred Zakye and high level Ethiopian officials led by the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) Director-General, Temesgen Tiruneh and his deputies; Mr Sisey Tola and Mr Tazer Gebreegziabher.
Before his departure, Muhoozi through his official Twitter account said he will be going to Ethiopia to “try and bring understanding between us.”
“The stability of East Africa depends on two countries, Ethiopia and Uganda. The river Nile begins from these two mothers of Africa. I am going to Ethiopia to try and bring understanding between us. May Jesus Christ be with us!” He said in a tweet.
Muhoozi and his team are also expected to meet top Ethiopian army officers.
The development comes hardly a month after President Museveni received and held talks with the Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, Alemtsehay Meseret Gelaw State House, Entebbe.
Earlier, Muhoozi had also met Amb Meseret, saying both had “very friendly and frank discussions.
