Unknown people have attacked a police checkpoint in Luweero district and killed a police officer.
According to Savanna region Police spokesperson, ASP Isah Ssemwogerere, the assailants also stole two guns.
He said the incident occurred at about 11:30am on Monday at Kiwumpa village.
The deceased officer was among the five officers (three traffic and two Field Force Unit officers) manning a Fika Salama checkpoint.
Ssemwogerere said during the attack, a police officer identified as PC Twinamasiko was cut on the head and his gun grabbed from him.
Another officer identified as PC Busingye was also cut and his gun taken.
The attackers later poured petrol on a motor vehicle Reg No UAR 301Z Fuso Fighter loaded maize and then set it on fire.
The police Fire Brigade managed to put off the fire.
The victims were taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Unfortunately, PC Twinamasiko died on the way.
