At the invitation of His Excellency Gen. Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Al – Burhan, The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of the Republic of Sudan, Amb. Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu presented his letters of credence on July 7, 2022, at the State Palace in Khartoum.
Amb. Ssemuddu was accompanied to the ceremony by a delegation of senior embassy officials.
H.E Gen. Al – Burhan welcomed and congratulated Amb. Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu on his appointment as Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan and assured him of his full support and that of the government of the Republic of Sudan.
His Excellency the President also wished Amb. Ssemuddu God’s blessing and a successful tour of duty in Sudan.
Amb. Ssemuddu thanked H.E the President for accepting to meet and receive his credentials expeditiously to enable him effectively commence his tour of duty.
He also thanked H.E Gen. Al-Burhan for the warm hospitality accorded to him since his arrival in the country.
He conveyed greetings from H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, who also thanked President Burhan for his unwavering commitment to a stable and prosperous Sudan.
Amb Ssemuddu also thanked H.E Gen. Al-Burhan for the support accorded to his predecessor, Amb Kinobe, during his service in Sudan.
Amb Ssemuddu applauded the cordial bilateral relations that exist between Uganda and Sudan as evidenced by the regular exchange of official visits at all levels of government and people-to-people relations.
He reiterated his commitment to further consolidating on this milestone.
He emphasized the benefits that cordial relations have on the economic, social and political development of the two countries, especially on the commercial front where the trade in coffee and tea has remained highly reputable.
He further emphasized the importance of bilateral relations in promoting peace and security through available regional mechanisms including IGAD and ICGLR. He unscored the role Uganda plays with Sudan as guarantors of the peace agreement in South Sudan.
On the prevailing situation in Sudan, the Ambassador informed that H.E President Museveni is following the events with keen interest and stated that ‘it is the belief of the people and government of Uganda that the process of trilateral mechanism will help resolve the political, security and governance issues in Sudan.’
This is because of the strong faith and belief the government of Uganda has in the membership of UN, AU and IGAD.
He also expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality extended and kind treatment of President Al-Burhan and the people of Sudan since his arrival in the country.
He informed the President that he is looking forward to promoting stronger and more robust cooperation during his tour of duty.
