Fire has gutted a boys’ dormitory for Senior One and Senior Two students at Mbarara Secondary School in Kakoba Division, Mbarara city.
Nyerere House where the fire started reportedly housed at least 78 students.
The cause of the Friday morning fire is not yet known.

The police fire brigade quickly deployed to the school to put out the fire. Police have commenced investigations into the cause of the fire outbreak.
The fire destroyed students’ property including; books, mattresses and beddings.
According to reports, the school recently suspended some students but it is not clear whether this is related to the fire incident.

In August 2018, the police under then Rwizi Regional Police Commander, SP Robert Walugembe, took over Mbarara Secondary School campus following a fire that gutted one of the school dormitories.
At the time, the school sent home about 70 students after their property was burnt to ashes.
