President Kaguta Museveni has held talks with the former President of Russia and Chairman of the United Russian Party, H.E Dmitry Medvedev, via
zoom.
“I had the pleasure of speaking with the Former President of Russia and chairman of the United Russian Party H.E Dmitry Medvedev via a zoom call,” said Museveni on Friday.
“I expressed our gratitude to the Soviet Union for the support rendered in our anti-colonial endeavors in the 1960s and for facilitating our nation-building processes through trade, agriculture, industry and security,” he noted.
However, Museveni did not delve into the details of his conversation with Medvedev, who also doubles as the Deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
The talks come amid intense fighting in Ukraine where Russia claims to be “conducting a special military operation” and the signing of an agreement between the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the United Russian Party.
Tensions between Russia and the West have sharply escalated over the last few days with Medvedev saying the world could soon wake up to a nuclear conflict.
Uganda has in the past strengthened its relations with Russia.
In March, Uganda abstained from voting on the United Nations General Assembly Resolution to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
