Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura, and Soroti Woman MP, Anna Adeke, have been remanded to Luzira prison.

This follows their arrest on Monday morning for protesting against the continued detention of opposition figure Dr Kizza Besigye and high commodity prices.

The duo was arrested together with four women activists; Margaret Wokuli Madanda, Susan Nanyonjo, Mariam Kizito and Alice Amongi.

The activists under the People’s Front for Transition (PFT) pressure group were arrested at Mulago Roundabout holding placards and chanting “Free Besigye!” “Museveni will go someday!” slogans on loudspeakers.

They were detained at Wandegeya Police Station.

In the afternoon, they were produced at the Law Development Centre (LDC) Court and charged with inciting violence.

They were remanded to Luzira prison.

They are expected back in court Tuesday at 10am for further hearing of their application.

Their lawyer and Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, said the state intentionally kept the suspects at Wandegeya police station and decided to bring them very late to court where they were unable to apply for bail since it was close to 5pm.
