Police Block Besigye’s ‘Muzukuke’ Campaign Again

Police have once again blocked Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye from leaving his home in Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso district.

Besigye on Monday morning attempted to resume his ‘Muzukuke’ campaign aimed at reawakening Ugandans to stand up against the skyrocketing commodity prices.

“Our leader Kizza Besigye is again put under an illegal house arrest, days after the police and Army had vacated his home,” his Red Card Front said in a short social media statement.

“Besigye can’t move out.”

Police deployed swiftly and blocked the road from Besigye’s home.

Earlier, he addressed the media on the economic crisis Uganda faces.

“We are on our own,” Besigye told the media at his home.

He added:”…and therefore,  must find our own solutions to the crises we face.”

The Peoples’ Front for Transition – Uganda leader announced the “Wake Up Call” campaign last week while trying to drive to the Kampala city centre.

He was quickly blocked by police in Kasangati town.

“Muzukuke. We defeated Colonialists who had sophisticated first-class weaponry, we shall also defeat these local captors who use outdated second had weapons to harass and intimidate people,” he broadcasted from loudspeakers that were attached to his car.

On Sunday night, President Museveni said the only solution to rising prices is more production.

He also suggested finding alternatives to imported items i.e sunflower and castor oil for soap and traditional foods like cassava, millet, etc for bread.
