The Police has refuted media reports that the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken on the probe into the mysterious spate of murders of women that occurred mid this year in Wakiso district.

One of the daily newspapers carried a news story on Tuesday with the headline “FBI investigates women murders”.

However, police spokesperson Asan Kasingye responded, dismissing the contents of the article as false, claiming that the investigation into the murders remains under the auspices of the Police Force.

“We would like to inform the general public that the investigation into the killings of the women in Katabi town council and Nansana municipality is conducted by Special Investigations Division of the Uganda Police,” Kasingye said in a statement.

Kasingye appealed to the public to disregard the story.

So far, a total of 24 women have been killed in a brutal manner since May this year. Most of these women were gruesomely strangled to death and their bodies dumped in either plantations or bush.

There has been a pattern in these killings as in almost all cases, the killers raped the victims and later shoved sticks inside their genital parts. Some bodies were discovered with their body parts cut off.

Police has so far apprehended over 30 people and charged 13 of them with murder and terrorism in connection to the murders but murders have not stopped. It is possible that the criminals responsible for these murders are still at large.

In August, the Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura while in Nansana told residents that one of the suspects had confessed to having been hired by a business man to kill 8 of the women for ritual sacrifices.

Later, the Minister of Internal Affairs Gen Jejje Odong presented a report to Parliament which pointed to the “Illuminati”, a fictitious worldwide secret society as the cause of the deaths.

Women activists and the general public have all been calling on security agencies to step up security within Entebbe and the greater Wakiso area as well as deliver justice to the families of the victims.
