A bus belonging to Bismarkan bus company has been involved in an accident along Kabale highway in Kabale district.
Faridah Nampiima, the PRO Police Traffic Directorate, said the accident happened on Saturday morning May 7, 2022, at around 5am.
“We registered a single minor accident involving a motor vehicle Reg No UAQ 395D Isuzu bus of Bismarkan bus company.”
She said the bus that was traveling from Kampala to Kisoro lost control at Kabaraga Hills and went off the road.
“All passengers survived and no injuries were reported,” Nampiima said.
Police attributed the accident to poor visibility caused by thick fog.
“We appeal to motorists to drive carefully because fog always affects visibility during the rainy season.”
This comes shortly after two grisly accidents that happened on Wednesday claimed 26 lives.
At least 20 people were reported dead from an accident involving a Link bus along the Fort Portal-Kyenjojo Road in Kabarole, western Uganda, and six people were reported dead in an accident along the Mbale-Tirinyi Road in the east of the country.
Parliamentarians attributed the increasing road carnage to the failure of the Government to enforce the installation of speed governors in all public service vehicles.
In order to reduce the number of accidents involving passenger service vehicles, in 2004 the Ministry of Works and Transport issued a statutory instrument on speed governors.
The speed governors, whose use was implemented by Police, were intended to limit the speed of buses and trucks.
However, encountering a number of challenges during the implementation exercise, in 2008 the authorities relaxed on enforcing their use, and subsequently speed governors were withdrawn.
