The Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, has said that fully vaccinated individuals will not be required to wear face masks while they are outdoors, provided there are no crowds.
“Fully vaccinated individuals will not be required to wear face masks when they are outdoors provided there are no crowds,” she told media at Uganda Media Center on Wednesday.
She said wearing of face masks when one is indoors or in closed spaces like public transport, shops, schools and offices etc where two meters of social distancing can not be observed with other individuals, is required whether one is vaccinated or not.
She advised vulnerable or high-risk populations including the elderly, aged 50 years and above, and people living with co-morbidities irrespective of age, to keep their masks on at all times whether they are vaccinated or not.
Wearing of face masks in Uganda was made mandatory with some public and private places denying entry to those without them.
The World Health Organisation recommends that countries consider adjusting the mandatory requirement of wearing a face mask at all times when the Covid-19 coverage is 70% of the General population.
