Pupils have this morning begun Primary Leaving examinations with not many cases of delivery delays as has always been witnessed in the previous years.

However, fears of examination malpractice remain high as the country is still in shock following an alleged leakage of some Uganda Certificate of Education exams last week, which prompted the examinations body to ignite investigations into the matter.

Sylvia Nalubwama, the headteacher St. Martin primary school Kulambiro, in Nakawa division says that she is very skeptical about how the exercise will end amid alleged cases of O-level examinations’ leakage.

“UNEB has not apprehended the culprits and the same people may interfere with PLE and this, ultimately affects the marking, grading and limits the core value of the exams”, said Ms Nalubwama Sylvia.

The primary seven candidates have started with Mathematics and will write Social Studies with Religious Education in the afternoon. They will be finish tomorrow with integrated science and English.

According to Dan Odong , the UNEB secretary, 645,914 candidates from 12,751 centres (schools) registered for the examination this year, compared to 640,833 candidates from 12,391 centres last year. Of the 645,914 candidates, 312,485 are male while 333,428 are female.
